I didn't fall this week!
This week was pretty good. I'm making consistent progress considering I had to start over. I didn't really run through the winter months and that's something I'm going to have to work out for next year.
- I ran my longest run - 7.44 miles - at a 9:26 pace. I did notice that around mile 4, I had sharp pains on the inside of my left kneecap and back spasms. I was running on an asphalt track. Flat, nothing different. Only felt it on the track. Not before, not after. Weirdness.
| mi | pace | climb (ft) |
| 1 | 10:06 | 92 |
| 2 | 9:21 | 15 |
| 3 | 9:30 | -33 |
| 4 | 9:34 | -18 |
| 5 | 10:02 | 16 |
| 6 | 9:38 | 12 |
| 7 | 9:04 | -75 |
| 8 | 9:21 | -25 |
- My weekly mileage was also the highest for the year.
- And my overall pace is still improving since my re-introduction in March.
My biggest concern is preventing an overuse injury. This coming week is as "back-off" week. My long run will be at 5 miles again and next week I'll go for 8. Maybe. If all goes well. At the slightest hint of something being off, I'll drop back.

Looks like you are playing it smart and I'm sure that will help with the overuse injuries. Another strategy that I use to avoid overuse injuries is ICE LIKE HELL! :)
Overuse injuries, sigh. I am not even running as far as you, but I am constantly assessing how I feel. I just got back from 5 days in OR. Boy, I thought we had hills in NH! Bought new Nikes there, too. And now my back is out... I did strength training for an hour Tues. & did 5 mi. walk today w/an hour of gentle yoga as a chaser... but I may not run until I see where this back thing is going :-( Pain is a drag.
