April in Review
Picture is from Myrtle Beach (some pretty yet random house we drove by.)
The closest month before to this many miles was in April of last year at 73.8 miles and a 10:19 pace.
April appears to be a good month for me. I'm close to tying for most miles in a month and I also ran for the 2nd time, the farthest I've ever run before (7.4 miles) as well.
And the best part is that I'm running relatively pain-free. I do have a small ongoing issue with that spot where my backside meets my leg. No clue what it is or even how to Google it. "Pain in buttocks crease?" And occasionally a sharper pain in the back of my calf muscle about 5 or 6 inches below my "knee pit." Soleus something? Need to stretch. I don't ever stretch. Bad girl.
I did have one bad run this month, actually, it was the one where I thought I saw the poodle. I had to stop at about the half-way point and then when I did get started again, I was OK. My old mentality wouldn't let me stop. My new mentality does. And I think I'm better for it. I actually listened to my body. It was very unhappy. I backed off, it was happy again, and I was able to run home just fine.
Another thing I tried was putting my long run (which was shorter this week as a "back off" week) on Saturday. (See schedule here.) So I ran it after a short run on Friday and then had all Sunday to rest. (Short, long, rest.) I had been running it on Sunday so the schedule was short on Friday, rest on Saturday, long on Sunday, short on Monday. Runner's World recommended a rest day after a long run and a rest day before a speed-work day. Worked out pretty well.
It was also spitting during my long run so I ran sans electronics. Completely au naturel. I didn't go crazy without my music and I was able to run without worrying about my pace. I think it was truly a LSD run. I did not, however, experience any epiphanies as a result of spending quiet time alone with myself. (Is that redundant?)
P.S. I did google the buttocks crease and discovered that it refers to the plumber's crack. My pain is actually in the "gluteal crease" or the "fold of the buttock" but a search didn't turn up and diagnoses related to running. I did get lots of hits on butt implants. Go figure.

Laura! Why did you mention the poodle incident again??? It totally reminded me of BS's experience with "the handshake." Ugh. I hate creepy runs.
I hope your buttocks crease pain improves(did I just write that?).
On a "real" note, I hope you DO stretch your calves...it's so important!!
Funny about hte butt implants... :). Yay to running relatively injury-free, feels so good, huh!!! Those flowering plants in the picture are just drop-dead gorgeous! What I wouldn't do to have something bloom like that in Colorado! Have a great week!!
You spit while you run? Have you started chewing tobacco again? (HA!)
Butt crack pain sounds...well, you know...hope it feels better soon :)
Love the flowers in your picture...wow!
You asked what brand my running skirt was, it's called Lolë and I got it at Sports Expert here in Québec.
Just found you -- looking forward to following your journey :-)
