I tried running in Asics.  I got weird bleeding blisters on my arches. Bled through the shoe. Gross. Obviously no joy. And no picture. Good thing I'm not on rat poison like Iron Mike or I'd be gushing. Sorry Mike.  


I tried running in Mizuno Wave Alchemys. SCORE! 462.8 miles before I replaced them.  I hate orange. Love the shoe. I planned to run 10.3 miles.  My first double digit run.  20% more that my long run last week of 8.6 miles.

Had a fruit smoothie with an egg in it for breakfast an hour or so before I ran.

I had to stop at a drugstore for water after mile 3.

I stopped at an Urgent Care medical office for water after mile 7.

The closest month before to this many miles was in April of last year at 73.8 miles and a 10:19 pace.

This week was pretty good.  I'm making consistent progress considering I had to start over.  I didn't really run through the winter months and that's something I'm going to have to work out for next year. 



I ran my longest run - 7.44 miles - at a 9:26 pace.  I did notice that around mile 4, I had sharp pains on the inside of my left kneecap and back spasms. Peeps?  Didn't eat a single one.  It helps that they aren't on the store shelves anymore.  I looked.  Twice.

Butt Lift?  I did the 35 minute Bum Bum (pronounced "boom boom") DVD yesterday.  It's one of several DVD workouts that promised to reduce, shape and lift my pear-shaped butt.

Eating Habits 
On a scale of 1 to 10 my eating habits have been about a.... Hmmm.  1.  It's the 60 - 65 Peeps and the Cadbury chocolate eggs that did me in.  I bypassed the Snickers eggs but just can't pass up a good Peep. Hopefully, they will be unavailable for awhile.

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter.  I have been eating Peeps everyday for a week now.  OMG I love Peeps.  I'm going to miss them so much.  The bunnies, too.  Especially the chocolate bunny Peeps.  Those are awesome!  Easter is over now.  Time to get off the Peeps and show a little discipline and self-control.

So many changes!

Quit smoking. Again. Really. I didn't just cut back, I cut it out.  I feel much better. (I dreamt I smoked last night. I was so glad to wake up and find that it was only a dream!)
Gained 5 pounds. (See #1)
Got a new grandprincess. Isn't that the best? She is adorable. Spent a week in Omaha, NE visiting with her, and my grand boys and kids.

It's been awhile. 
It's been too hot to run.  But I've made peace with the treadmill.  I'm not running as much as I should but I think I'm starting to pick it up again.
One of the reasons I've been running less is because of the heat and because I started smoking again.  I Am An Idiot.  My lungs hurt.  I cough.  Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I did it - ran the Peachtree 10K Road Race on Saturday, July 4th. This is my 2nd race in 3 years. I don't race much, obviously. My pace per mile was 9:18 which is great for me. I was very pleased. I work out 6 out of 7 days a week. Of the 6 days, I run 3 and crosstrain on the other 3 days. Crosstraining involves exercise videos and the recumbent bicycle. The bicycle is beginning to hurt my knees, I think, so I might have to back off on that a bit. Those twinges in my hips? The beginnings of stress fractures, both sides, left being worse. No actual fracture yet but there could have been if I hadn't stopped running. Once they're fractures, you have to have surgery and they stick pins in the bone to hold it together while it heals. So, overall, it's a good thing that I stopped running. It was very windy but the wind was buffered by the trees on either side of the asphalt road that winds through Lake Lanier Islands. Traffic was light enough that I barely had to look for cars. Cool. Rolling hills and a beautiful view of the lake. Lake Sidney Lanier is the result of damming the Chattahoochee River with the Buford Dam in 1956. On Tuesday I covered 6.07 miles with 10 repeats and today, probably 4.5 miles? with 8 repeats.Overall today's run was much better than Tuesdays. On Tuesday I almost quit. Everying hurt. I ran at a snails pace. Weird thing is that when I turned around at the skate park, I had wind again. That's the farthest I have every gone in my entire life and I even ran tack in high school. I am SO proud of my self. Minor pain in my hip if I sit too long but nothing bad. Can you believe it?! 7.1 miles.The run was supposed to be 4/2 x 10 and I did 4/2 x 11 plus a couple of extra minutes running and a warm-up and cool-down walk. Yesterday I felt compelled to fix my bad run from before so I ran/walked 3/2 x 12 instead of 10. I know I'm not supposed to go faster than The Plan dictates but surely there's a little wiggle room, isn't there? Next run is 4/2 x 10 for 60. The pace is picking up. There's no more of these wussy 3o second increments. And I blew it. I programmed my interval app on my iPhone to do 2 minutes running and 3 minutes walking. The whole time I was thinking:  "Boy. 62 degrees. Drizzling. What an easy, easy run. Feeling good.  Bring it on!" Budfits. They're made by a company called Innovellis and they're wonderful. I have an iPhone that I run with because I like to listen to music or podcasts while I'm running. Apple's earbuds fall out. They just do. So when I'm running, I switch to some Sony over-the-ear headsets but there's no way to comfortably answer the phone if my hub calls me.
